So much more to discover than rolling hills and dramatic skylines!

On this page we are sharing some of our favourite places to visit, eat and shop.   This is our local insider scoop on some of the best bits

Places to visit:

There is a mix here of privately owned and National Trust owned sites.  These make our list because they are suitable for families, couples and groups alike, there is something for everyone; architecture, amazing gardens, playgrounds, sculpture, history and cafés (we do love a good piece of cake and a coffee)!

These two places are more suited to families looking for a theme park type activity.  Lightwater Valley is a theme park for the under 12 age group, they also have a crazy golf activity and a designer outlet shopping experience.  The Forbidden Corner is an ever so slightly bonkers, Alice in Wonderland style, outdoor adventure playground (please make sure you book tickets in advance, they do not sell them on the gates).

If you like pretty English market towns or if you are looking for places to buy excellent local produce, then both these gorgeous towns are just 10 minutes’ drive from Little Seed Field.

Masham is the home of Black Sheep and Theakstons breweries and both offer brewery tours, great beer and brilliant dining options.  Black Sheep also has a great gift shop!

Pateley Bridge has a picture postcard high street and is also the home of two award winning butchers for all your BBQ needs.  Kendalls Farm Butcher is a family business at the top of the high street, we have been buying our meat here as long as we can remember!  There are also galleries, gift shops and the Oldest Sweetshop in England!

Places To Eat:

Our nearest pub is approx. 2 miles away and for most dining out experiences you will require a car to get you there Depending on how far you like to walk).

The Grantley Arms – this is a foody place rather than a drinking place but has great outside seating for a mid-way rest on a local circular walk.

The Half Moon – located in Fellbeck, a short drive away.  Good quality, basic, pub food and a good pint run by a friendly family team.

Olley’s Wine Bar & Pizzeria – located in Pateley Bridge.  The place we go to celebrate a family occasion!  Good pizza and lots of other choices and a great specials board.

Grantley Hall – this prestigious country home offers a range of fine dining options across multiple restaurants.  If you like to dress up and soak up lavish surroundings, then this is the place for you!  If a full meal is too much for the budget, why not try an afternoon tea in the garden?

Realitea – located in Ripon.  This is a gorgeous, understated, Indian café.  Only open during the daytime, Sarita and her team create authentic Indian brunch and afternoon tea delights.  This truly is a hidden gem!

Walking

This is a tricky one to narrow down as there are so many choices!  You can find many more options on the visit Nidderdale website:

Shopping:

As well as the local market towns, we are just 25 minutes from the beautiful spa town of Harrogate and just under 1 hour from the Viking city of York.  Both offer quintessentially Yorkshire shops, including the fabulous Betty’s Tearoom, as well as some brilliant high street chains, designer and luxury independent clothing stores.
