Environment Influences Thinking

Do leadership teams make better decisions outside of the office? Leadership away days at Little Seed Field.

10 Mar 2026

In a previous life, I worked in a corporate high stress/high expectation role. I loved the pace and pressure; it suited my ambition and nature to work damn hard.

The leadership away days though! They were stale and full of clichés. They took place in uninspiring hotel rooms, with tea that tasted like coffee (that is a major no for a Yorkshire gal) and ‘team building’ games that were neither fun nor effective.

I longed for an away day that felt authentic. One where we felt valued as leaders and one where I came away feeling better understood and having developed a better understanding of my colleagues.

I believe that bringing teams together away from the office can create the conditions for clearer thinking, stronger alignment and more meaningful discussions, and that the environment in which these events take place is extremely important.

Little Seed Field offers a unique away day environment for your leadership team. Just one hour from Leeds and York and just under thirty minutes from Harrogate; a world away from everywhere.

I believe that when senior leaders physically remove themselves from their usual environment, it can create a cognitive reset. There are fewer interruptions. Fewer visual reminders of unfinished tasks. Fewer reactive conversations.

By moving into a natural environment (landscapes, fresh air, informal seating, boundless views) you can more easily facilitate reflective thinking and strategic clarity – everyone is on new turf, literally.

Relaxed does not mean unprofessional (you can do formal here too if your business needs demand that). Relaxed means open, unassuming, collaborative and creative.

Real leadership conversations are rarely just about numbers. They involve culture, direction, accountability, goals and difficult truths. Effective leadership requires strong relationships, confident thinking and a clear head.

Alignment happens when leadership teams invest in time together.

Away days can facilitate shared perspective, clear priorities, honest reflection and collective ownership.

Environment communicates value.

When a business invests in taking its senior team offsite, somewhere completely different, with thoughtfully designed activities and time to process problems, it sends a message:

This time matters.
This work matters.
You matter.
